WII Wireless Nunchuks?

According to the British gamingsite Verdicts, Nintendo is planning to release a wireless Nunchuk controller.

As the brits claim, "An unconfirmed source has revealed that Nintendo are currently working on a wireless version of their Nunchuck attachment for the Wii remote".

The story continues with theories why a wireless Nunchuk makes sense. We're just wondering why it would make sense. The Nunchuk will still have to communicate with the Wii system, either through the Wii-mote's wireless interface (which means the wireless Nunchuk will have to communicate with the Wii-mote), or with the Wii system directly. Either way, the Nunchuk will have to sync with the Wii-mote, otherwise the Nunchuk won't know which player it belongs to. This means that every player would have to 'claim' their Nunchuk controller one at a time.

Whether or not Nintendo wants its customers to undergo such procedures every time a Nunchuk is used, remains unknown. For the time being, we discard the story by Verdicts to the rumour corner.

  • Well, they could have something that plugs into the bottom of the Wiimote, that sends the signal to the nunchuk. But it still doesn't seem that likely. The cord is plenty long anyway.

  • I thought of that too, yet I'm not sure whether that would be necessary. If a wiimote could hold two Bluetooth connections simultaneously, the nunchuk merely needs to be capable of creating a connection to the wiimote. Still got the synching problem (or Nintendo should start using broadcasting-channels, which I doubt)

  • I think it could be done. They could have the nunchuk sending signals to the Wii console like the Remote does, and have a firmware update to allow it. A CD could be included with the firmware for people without Internet.

  • Still got the issue of synching a nunchuk with a wiimote. Suppose there are two players (thus two wiimotes and two nunchuks); How does nunchuk 1 know it belongs to wiimote 1? The wiimotes are assigned their own id (1-4) by the order of enabling them, so in a way, its random.

  • To prevent people from hanging themselves, it is a good idea.

  • That's a good idea, and you do have a point there Dennis.
