NDS Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Cheaters Paradise Soon?

Well, if it's up to some people, it will be. People using lesser legal ways to play their games might oppose a new threat to you.

Ever since the existance of games, people have been trying to find ways to play those games for free. For the Nintendo DS, people already succeeded and managed to run both commercial and homebrew code to their likings.

The very same scene also likes to cheat in their games by altering the games themselves. Instead of finding ways in the game itself to get, say 100 1-Up mushrooms, these people tend to alter the game's code preventing them from taking damage or having to pay for that super missile. Up to now, these activities were only performed on their side only.

Then someone came up with a loader for Mario Kart DS, allowing him to choose tracks Nintendo had decided not to launch over the Wi-Fi Connection service. Normal gamers were pondering how someone could choose the airship track or a giant donut-shaped track. Still, there were no real advantages in this approach except perhaps the fact that they focussed on these hidden tracks and thus became more and more an expert on such.

Now a cracking group has released a trainer for Metroid Prime Hunters. This time, the patch will not only grant the gamer infinite energy and missiles during his single-player missions, but also while playing friends and foes over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection!

As the cracking group describes their patch:      | :: | For our first trainer, we decided to disrupt some things| :: |      | :: | and train a Wi-Fi game! Have fun flying around maps as  | :: |      | :: | an unstoppable hunter.                                  | :: |      | :: |                                                         | :: |      | :: | Options:                                                | :: |      | :: | * Infinite Energy                                       | :: |      | :: | * Infinite Missiles                                     | :: |      | :: | * Infinite Sub-Weapon Ammo                              | :: |      | :: | * Hold B To Levitate                                    | :: |      | :: |                                                         | :: |      | :: | We're using BSDiff for patching, because the filesystem | :: |      | :: | in the ROM had to be reconstructed. Apply the patch to  | :: |      | :: | the USA release, then launch it with your favourite NDS | :: |      | :: | loader.                                                 | :: |

Basically, what we're trying to do is to warn our readers. Up to now, online gaming on the Nintendo DS was more-or-less without cheating.

Of course, DS-x2 would like to see their readers will not join forces with the cheaters but play honorable instead, even though that might mean you'll lose some. The benefit is the feeling of success when you win on your own strenght.

  • It's the copyright laws. The US laws cannot effect any other countries, hence if a game copyrighted in Japan and US has no copyright in China, they can download the game and do anything to it as they want. After the altering, play on their iQue or the latest stolen black NDS Lite by putting it on an SD card.

  • Who actually plays this terrible game anymore? Good for the hackers, I doubt they are doing it because they are "insecure about their gaming skills", I presume its just to see what they can do.
