ALL Nintendo @ GDC 2005

Nintendo lets loose the facts concerning the DS online and GBA2.

Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime lets loose the facts concerning the DS and GBA2.

As pointed out earlier, today was the day that Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata finally spoke out about the DS online at the GDC in San Francisco. The DS will be brought online wirelessly later in the year. Once the service begins gamers will be able to connect their DS to Wi-Fi hotspots found worldwide with no additional costs. The first games expected to go online with the DS is Animal Crossing DS.

Iwata then went onto talk about how they had successfully managed to get people playing wirelessly in smaller local-areas where Nintendo DS' are in close proximity to each other, before participating in an eight way wireless race on Mario Kart DS which was first unveiled at the DS European launch party in Paris.

The President was also keen to let us know that DS unit shipments have surpassed 4 million in North America and Japan in the 16weeks it was available on the market and was confident it would hit the 6 million mark once the machine was launched in Europe.

Finally we were treated to demonstrations of two more key DS games that take full advantage of the handhelds capabilities; Nintendogs and Electroplankton

Later in the day IGN cube and 1up.com managed to get a chance to speak to Nintendo of America?s executive vice president of sales and marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime. One thing he was certain to point out is that it will be quite a wait before we see or hear anything about the successor to the GBA so don?t hold your breath.
