NDS New DS WiFi and Video Rumours

Brand new rumours on WiFi networks and DS DivX movies in the works...

Kotaku is reporting that they've got a 'source'. Nothing wrong with that, except that their source is slipping through tiny bits of information on Nintendo's activities.According to their source, Nintendo is currently working on two major projects.

First of all, Nintendo is said to be working on the rollout of a WiFi network, allowing DS gamers to play each other online without the need of being in the same room or building. Kotaku does not report anything about the location of possible hotspots, but do tell that they heard about downloadable games (presumably demos). Currently Nintendo is said to be busy working on getting the system to work without problems...

The second rumour Kotaku brings in, is said to be Nintendo's answer to the PSP's multimedia capabilities: DivX movies on the Nintendo DS. Apparently, Nintendo is working on using Divx compressed movies that can be played directly from DS cartridges, without using an adapter such as the Play-Yan. Compared to the GBA Video packs from Majesco, these cartridges will hold better quality video and about 2 to 3 times the amount of video (up to 2 hours). Kotaku claims that the first movie to hit the DS using these new DivX cartridges will be an animated one, with Disney or Pixar mentioned as possibilities.

  • I've read several people doubting the capacity though. 128 MB isn't exactly much...

  • I really hope for the wireless thing. I have no one in the nearby community with a DS. *begins singing* I'm all alone! There's nobody here beside me... *people scream* *stops singing* :P

  • No jeff, dennis is right, it's 128MB, or 1 Gb, there is a difference between a bit and a byte.

  • aceallways: "jeff40k: "128 MB isn't exactly much..." Eh? The DS cartridge is over 1GB." I dont know why you said this stupid statement, DS cards are not a set size, I believe metriod uses a 64MB card, and yes they CAN be UP TO 1GB. Yes but i'm sure the DS' cartridges are 1Gigabit not GigaByte.

  • "Wouldn't exactly be interested in buying read-only movies to watch on my DS." Good point Afromanpeter. Hum, well, I'll be buying Play-yan then. And god hoping the wireless hoojamaflip comes out!

  • @Skarmachild: better wait a few days before you order one then. Just heard that Nintendo is recalling the current Play-Yan's due to a small bug: they accidentally switched the left and right channels for the earphones >_

  • I know, and I'm going to be buying the aceness which is Hori Headphones. I'm getting my dad to get em off Play-Asia or Lik-Sang. Also, ive reserved Mario 64DS in Game in the UK. W00t, first DS game. On other news, I played Warioware, TigerWoods, Project Rub for the first time. Project Rub is easily the best!
