ETC V Pocket - Continued

A hoax? Probably. Interesting? Very. The V Pocket story continues...

Our friends over at DSParty.nl received an interesting email earlier today. The email, from an email address that belongs to Nintendo, contained no text but one single image instead:

vpocket2.gif

A hint to the Nintendo DS going online? We smelled a rat. Together with Notorious from DSParty we searched for answers.

First of all, the from-address as shown on the email was probably faked. It's not to hard to fake the headers of an email, claiming that an email comes from george@thewhitehouse.com. Furthermore, why would Nintendo send out an email hinting at their plans within 24 hours after the revelation of the V Pocket trademark (which was only registered in Japan), while the trademark has been there since mid-December 2004? To make things even worse, Notorious stumbled upon this, a familiar looking image.

Taking all these together, we think it's safe to say that another hoax based on the Nintendo DS going 'online' tried to manifest itself on the web. We're just happy that we're able to keep a lot of people from believing it.

Thanks to Notorious from DSParty.nl

  • It would be sooo cool if it was actually real.

  • Sorry for double posting, but it kinda looks like the thing that goes with the DS font right now. It could be the video player though. V(Video)-Pocket. Video Pocket. Makes sense.

  • In Japan several sites seem to think it has something to do with 'Voice'. Voice over IP perhaps? On the other hand, a guy I know came up with a story about the downloadable demos in Japan. The story goes that the 'vending machines' will carry this name. I guess we'll see :) ps. about the double posting, I don't think anyone would mind, since the comments aren't used that much. About 20 out of the 3-4k people use it :)

  • 3-4 thousand people visit? Cool! Anyway, if it does have something to do with Nintendo going online, then YAY! But if not then i'm sure it's still going to be something cool.

  • I have a feeling that the e-mail was fake, but I'm still interested in this V-pocket thing...

  • It was a fake, we already seen a couple of guys who admitted it.

  • http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/02/10/news_6118355.html GameSpot states that V-Pocket is a adapter of some kind, but don't really know what purpose it has.
