40% More Nintendo DS Units Before 2005

This is starting to become a weekly column: Nintendo raises the bar once more.

To date, North American retail sales have reached 700,000. In addition, sales of Nintendo DS in Japan exceeded half a million systems in just four days after launch on Dec. 2, meaning more than 1.2 million Nintendo DS systems have sold through worldwide.

The recent sales-figures of the Nintendo DS made Nintendo raise the sales-target once more. Where Nintendo earlier expected to sell 1 million units in the United States and another million in Japan, the company now claims to go for 2.8 million units for both regions combined before the end of 2004.

"Nintendo is doing everything it can to make Nintendo DS attainable for the holidays," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "The enthusiastic response from shoppers has made Nintendo DS 'must-have' ? and we're determined to make it 'will have.' "

Nintendo also spoke about its targets for 2005. After the European launch in March 2005, Nintendo aims to sell 1.5-2 million units per month.

  This is good news. I got my DS from Japan. Its great, alldo my games have not arrived yet! :( Hope my Mario64DS comes tomorrow. But I have been playing Zelda (GBA) on the DS and the screens are brite and really nice. :) Anyone tried Mario64DS in multilayer mode? Dos it work good? Is it fun?

  I played SM64DS with Tim from Cube-Europe for a while. It's fun, but the rounds are a bit short if you ask me. The idea is to chase stars... or steal them from your opponents :P

  I?ve played MSM64DS too. My friend has a japanese DS so no Metroid mulyplayer:(. But Mario is Really cool!The rounds are a bit short tough. But it?s cool! My friend had to do homework so I had to go (his parents). But I stayed outside and played mario via the wireless multyplayer!! That was really cool! :D

  SM64DS Sounds good. The multiplayer part is more of a bonus. :-) I can't wait for more games for the DS. Just been and orderd Ridge Racer DS. :-)
