Nintendo To Triple Profit
Nintendo has once again raised its annual profit and sales forecasts, based on... The Nintendo DS.
After the recent announcement of 84 billion yen, Nintendo now expects a total net income of 90 billion yen (that's $846 million) coming in from the period April 2004 - March 2005. Compared to last years' results of 'only' 33 billion yen ($310 million), that's a gain of almost 200%!
Nintendo expects profit to almost triple this year because of demand for its Nintendo DS player and its software. The release of the NDS on November 21 was accompanied by a $40 million ad campaign, only to try to keep the current 95% marketshare on the portable game market (with Sony's PSP in sight).
Apparently Nintendo thinks the NDS sales are going beyond expectations, since they've decided to raise the bar once more: 5 million units to be sold before March 31.
