Site news: Log in using your OpenID account
Joining the discussions on Nintendo-x2.com has never been easier, as we've implemented some experimental login features for your convenience. If you're already using GMail, a member at Yahoo or got a different OpenID, join us now!
In the past, we already made it easier for our visitors to join both the forum and the site-discussions by integrating the user management systems of both parts of Nintendo-x2.com. Now, we went even further by implementing sign-in using an OpenID.
What is OpenID?
As Wikipedia states, "OpenID is an open standard that describes how users can be authenticated in a decentralized manner". What this means, is that using an OpenID, you no longer need to remember usernames and passwords used over every single forum or website you're using. You acquire your OpenID once and then use that to register at all the other forums and websites. Even though you will remain having multiple accounts (one for every website or forum), you can log in everywhere using your OpenID credentials (often a username and password combination). It's even possible to sign in at one site, and stay logged in on your OpenID meaning you don't have to re-enter your credentials on the next site!
Where do I get an OpenID?
Chances are you already have an OpenID! If you're already using GMail, Yahoo, Flickr or WordPress your account there can (most likely) be used right here on Nintendo-x2.com as well! Check out the official OpenID website for more details if you need more information or simply want to register a new OpenID and want to see where you can get one.
What's the catch?
We have to be honest with you: the forum software we're using here on Nintendo-x2.com wasn't designed to make use of the newer versions of OpenID. Nonetheless, we managed to redevelop the forum software to be able to log in and we have successfully tested using Google-accounts, Yahoo and MyVidoop. We can't guarantee that every OpenID provider will work with our custom software but be sure to let us know which provider you're using and whether it worked (either through the comments-section below or through our contact forms) so other users may be helped and/or we can try to adjust the software for you.
Enough! How do I start using this?
Settle down. If you are not logged in already, the top-right of the site should display a small login-panel. Underneath, there's a link to our login-page where you can select the OpenID provider of your choice: Google and Yahoo can be used by simply clicking their respective buttons, other providers should supply you with their "endpoint- or discovery-URI" (for example, MyVidoop uses an URI similar to "yourusername.myvidoop.com"). In the latter case, simply enter the URI in the OpenID-textbox and there you go!
Depending on your OpenID provider, you will be asked to log in at their own site and to grant us access to some of your data. Don't worry, the only thing we're using at the moment is your OpenID-identifier (so we can bind an account to your OpenID) and, if available, an email-address, nickname, date of birth and gender so we can pre-fill your account. If those details are not available through your OpenID provider, you can manually enter them afterwards.
If you have granted us access, you will be confronted with our terms of service and next with a screen in which you can enter your preferred username to use here at Nintendo-x2.com and a really easy captcha-like test (just to check whether you're not one of those annoying spambots...). Click register and your account will be created, you will be logged in and all done!
We hope you will be using this easier way to join us and let us know what you think of it!
