WIIU A Week of Rayman Legends

While 3DS owners are still awaiting the release of Rayman Origins, the gaming community has been teased this week by the news that a sequel: Rayman Legends, may be in the works.

The rumors began earlier in the week when a Ubi Soft survey appeared to suggest that the best selling Rayman Origins would recieve a sequel. The research was conducted by Arkenford who undertake this type of work for the French publisher on a regular basis.

Shortly after this the rumors were given more credibility due to the fact that Ubi Soft themselves registered the Rayman Legends name as a domain. Of course, more was to come and fans of the original were delighted when a 'leaked' developer video showed not only the game in action but also the Wii U specific features.

This was meant to be for internal consumption only and it's not unusual for development teams to experiment with this kind of tech on new platforms. This led from the footage being removed from a great deal of outlets with Ubi Soft releasing an official statement regarding the footage:

"An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins' sequel has leaked over the Internet. This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features. This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits. Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier."

So there you have it. Rayman Legends will be coming to consoles and probably the Wii U as it's now been offically confirmed as 'in development'. As a result the Montpellier studios relesed some images of the game in action which you can see below.

  • The series is indeed great looking and fun to play, looking forward to the sequel. Interestingly, the only real news regarding Wii U since its announcement in E3 2011 wasn't even about Wii U.

  • Origins was easily in the top 3 games for me last year if not number one. It was an amazing title and I can't wait for the next one in its style. Legends looks to be just that, and with it on the Wii U with those extra features, it might make me pick it over a Xbox version just because. However in some ways I'm disappointed in Nintendo that all the titles I'm excited for on the Wii U so far have been Ubisoft titles.

  • Ubisoft is one of those die hard third party who refuses to give up on Nintendo no matter what. Their implementation of Nintendo hardware is easily one of the best out of all developers.

  • Looks... odd. The cartoony style was awesome. This seems to be between plain-cartoony and semi-realistic-cartoony
