WII Nintendo reveals updated Wii Model

Nintendo will bring a brand new Wii model to the European market later this year. Update We've added a picture of the new bundle to the story, showing the "redesigned" Wii.

The major change in this new Wii model is the removal of Gamecube support, which makes the console itself much slimmer.

Dubbed the "Family Edition" the new bundle will replace the current SKU (with the current Wii model to be phased out) it includes Wii Sports, Wii Party, a Wii Remote Motion Plus and a nunchuk. At this stage however the console will only be heading to Europe, with no comment from Nintendo about changing the SKU in other regions.

  • I wonder if it will still include the stand?

    Trent, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • It shouldn't, as it is designed for a horizontal position according to the press release

  • Yeah but while the other one does both, it was clearly also designed primary for Vertical positioning. So maybe?

  • Somehow whenever lay down my Wii the disc drive seem to make more noise, so I always play mine on stand. By the way, any mentioning of the price of the Wii mini?

  • Lets see: - New cheap Wii-bundle, including Wii Sports and Wii Party - New Wii system "streamlined", designed to be placed horizontally, not vertically. - New Wii includes "slightly altered configuration": no more compatibility with software and/or hardware designed for GameCube - Bundles include a white Wii, 1 remote and nunchuk and the two games That's about all there is in the press release.

  • I'm thinking it will be the same?

    Trent, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • Believe it's priced at 99 Euros. Probably be about 99 GBP in the UK then. Other than that, it's not getting released in the US or Australia (NoA has said it's not coming and Nintendo Australia have also stated) but I suspect it'll come to Japan.

  • 99 is a good price for it, anything more would result in losing to Sony's price drop.
