No DVD or Blue-ray Playback for Wii U
Nintedo's President and CEO, Satoru Iwata, has confirmed that the Wii U will not support existing Blue-ray or DVD media moving away from now standard features offered by both the PS3 and X-Box 360.
The decision itself is thought to be a financial one which cold be a wise move given that recent research has indicated that the 3DS is not selling as well as predicted due to it's high cost. Iwata offered further fuel to this theory by stating:
"We feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn't warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies."
It seems likely that these media specs will remain but if there's any change, we'll let you know.
