Game Boy Virtual Console with a nostalgic groove
Over the past week, information about the upcoming eShop have been flooding in. But the most interesting piece of information resides about the work put into the Game Boy games for the Virtual Console.
Fans will find the games have a distinct feeling taking them back to the early 90s to when the console first came out. With work been taken to the Virtual Console games to ensure they have a special green tinge, and that red glow when the battery is flickering to a halt.
In the latest Iwata Asks, eShop Virtual Console Manager Kenta Tanaka discussed the extra features which have been included to make the Virtual Console just a little bit more special.
"When the power runs low, I recreated the dimming of the red LED on the left-hand side of the screen cover", he says. "Well, I'm not quite sure who will appreciate this feature, but I really got carried away with it (laughs)."
"As much as possible, I wanted to recreate the appearance of the LCD screen being slightly behind the screen cover," Tanaka comments. Kenta Tanaka also goes on to mention that many of the ghosting and blurring issues have also been simulated to give players that extra nostalgic feeling. "So for example, in Super Mario Land, I wanted to recreate as much as possible the afterimage that appears when throwing a Super Ball (laughs)."
Players can rest easy to know that the features are optional, and only truly for the real nostalgic fans out there. Attached is a trailer for Super Mario which shows both the classic mode and the green mode.

The red LED... just brilliant!
While I'd rather the games look crisp and sharp on the 3DS without any rendering to make it feel like I'm playing a Gameboy- I am kind of curious to what it will be like.
Should've been an option though
