3DS New 3DS Firmware Causes Ridge Racer to Crash

Nintendo have confirmed that the new 3DS firmware update may cause problems with Namco's Ridge Racer. Gamers may experience the title 'freezing' in various modes but Nintendo hopes to fix the problem is a new update coming later this month. All of the details are available in an official press Nintendo release, which you can read inside.

"Accompanying the system update available on June 6, it has been confirmed that under certain circumstances when making a selection before the race starts in "Grand Prix" in "Single Play" mode of the Ridge Racer 3D game, the screen sometimes freezes. If you do not install the system update at this time, the symptom will not occur.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We will have a system update in mid-June that should take care of this matter.

In Ridge Racer 3D, pressing the B Button to return from Race Selection or Machine Selection may cause the screen to freeze. If the screen does freeze, please press and hold the Power button and turn the system off then retry. There should be no impact to the save data."

  • Was it Nintendo or Namco making this statement?

  • Yeah but the fix is a couple of weeks away from the sounds of it, Trinest. So yeah, definitely not a great start and rather annoying.

  • Bad QA if you ask me. If there's only a handful of games available for a platform, at least try to make sure everything keeps working. In the worst case, ask the publishers' QA departments to help our regression-testing their own software.

  • Lots of launch games however had issues with the Wifi technology- which is why many of them crashed originally. If anything its more the developers problem then Nintendo in this case.
