Wii price-cut and Nintendo Selects-series announced
We've had rumors and mutterings about this for days now but it seems Nintendo have finally realized that maybe the Wii isn't selling as well as it used to. As a result, we're not only getting a cheaper console but also a new bundle and the Nintendo Selects-series. Head inside for all the details.
With the summer holidays edging closer into view, Nintendo today announced the launch of a new range of software titles that are light on the wallet and heavy on fun. The Nintendo Selects range, launching on 20th May 2011, is a value for money* selection of popular Wii game titles for all the family.
Wii bundles What's more, Nintendo will also launch a new entry level Mario Kart Wii Pack on the same day. The new pack will contain a white Wii console, Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk, Wii Wheel and a copy of Mario Kart Wii.
Nintendo has also announced that on 20th May 2011 it will be reducing the trade price of its existing Wii Sports Resort Pack, which includes a black Wii console, Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk and a copy of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on one disc. Although Nintendo won't claim a price, reports from various retailers suggest a price of 129.
Nintendo Selects The games in the Nintendo Selects range offer social gaming fun for the whole family. Titles included are the fitness phenomenon Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged Football and Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City.
Wii Sports introduces a new entertainment experience. Offering five distinct sports experiences, tennis, bowling, golf, boxing and baseball - each using the Wii Remote in a different way to provide a natural, intuitive and realistic feel. Warm up and throw yourself into the action with the hit sports game that will have you on your feet and having fun faster than you can swing a tennis racquet.
With over 200 lightening-quick microgames and controls that will have you waving, flapping and jumping around the place, WarioWare: Smooth Moves takes interactive gaming to a whole new level. All you need is a Wii Remote and your best moves to be the champ. With hundreds of microgames and with the help of the Wii Remote, you will swing, spin and squat your way to victory.
Mario takes to the soccer pitch in Mario Strikers Charged Football, bringing his own unique 'fighting football' style to Wii. In this follow-up to Mario Smash Football, you use the skills provided by the Wii Remote and Nunchuk Controller to win the ball, score unstoppable goals and take control of the goalkeeper to perform spectacular saves.
In Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City you can while away the day chatting with friends, be a workaholic or figure out a pace of life to suit somewhere in-between. Try your hand at fishing, plant trees and flowers, discover artifacts from ancient worlds, gaze at the stars, decorate your home, see a hit show or make a name for yourself as an auction-house entrepreneur. It's all up to you!
For hours of great value entertainment for all the family, look out for Nintendo Selects and Mario Kart Wii Pack when they launch across Europe on 20th May 2011.

So they are now just trying to milk as much out of Wii as possible prior to its successor's release.
Well, they've got about 14-18 months before the successor launches. They've got to do something. And putting out the games as part of a reduced line will give the more casual audience a chance to play these games, although all are available second hand for under £10 anyway here or there abouts. It's definitely aimed at the casual gamer. They've got enough 'big' first party games to hold them over until the Wii's successor.
I think the release could be closer than you think. It's very plausible that the hardware configuration is nearing completion and mass production can start. 3DS was first playable at E3 and was released only half a year after that...
Aren't we expecting a 2012 release of the next console/Nintendo has already said 2012. With the slow down in Japan for the Wii, no doubt it will come out in Japan first ealry in the year.
I say early 2012 for Japan (say February), with a release late March already in the US and Europe.
I am glad that Nintendo is putting all of their efforts on Wii successor and 3DS for the time being. Even though that means a complete lack of Wii and DS game for months, however we know a year following next month's E3 keynote will be very exciting for Nintendo gamers. I would say Wii successor probably won't come out until April ~ May. Beginning of the year is too big of a software market for them to squeeze in. Also, I don't think 3rd party have sufficient time in development until at least summer.
Nintendo is releasing one game each month for the Wii- least in Japan. Its sort of translating to the western world as well. The 3DS shows this as well- expecially in Australia. With it been Nintendogs, Pilotwings, Steel Diver, Zelda etc. Looking at the Japanese launch schedual it is also very much like that there.
