ALL Wii successor officially confirmed

We all knew it was coming, and with the latest rumors on "Project Caf it was almost impossible for Nintendo to keep their lips sealed. However, the Japanese giant has officially confirmed the existence of the Wii's successor, including a release in 2012...

Nintendo of Japan has officially confirmed the existence of the Wii's successor, also referred to as "Project Caf. In an official statement, Nintendo reveals that they've decided to release the successor in 2012. Also mentioned is a playable model of the new system along with further details at E3 2012 (June 7-9 in Los Angeles).

As (confirmed) details of the system will take some time, we ask you: what are your hopes for the next generation console and/or what are the most interesting rumors you've heard so far?

  • Hoping more stuff comes out about it at the investors meeting. But otherwise E3.

  • Perhaps a few vague claims, I don't expect much (official) statements until E3. Seems like the codename "Project Café" was right though, as Warioworld.com seems to respond on "/cafe"...

  • This is very unlike Nintendo of Japan to confirm anything this early. Completely broke their rule of not confirming anything until a month prior to release. This makes me suspect something else is going on. Are they trying to hold investor interest during this software down time?

  • As always with things like this, I'll wait until I see it.

  • I'm with you on that Andrew. The number of rumours swirling at the moment makes it nigh on impossible to hit on anything that could turn out to be true. I've heard everything from a more traditional console to a tablet with dock so I'll wait to see what Nintendo shows as it's all too farfetched at the moment. But yeah, don't expect anything from the Investors Meeting on it. You'll have to wait till E3 for anything concrete. A brief mention yes but most likely sales talk, a slightly updated first party release schedule for US/Japan/Europe and that's it really. Same as ever.

  • Let's go crazy: return of the Wii Vitality sensor!

    Dennis, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • I won't be surprised if the Vitality Sensor is built into the handle of the device like those old arcade fortune telling machine. So many possibilities for it, especially for horror survivor and RPG. Instead of statically script events, having things happening determined by heart beat/blood pressure would be awesome.

  • There sales have dropped heaps, expecially in their mother country. They need to insure investors primary about the year ahead. I assume they released the small press release about it existing because today we would hear either the same- or a bit more coming out of the investor meeting.
