Fan-made pokemon MMO shut down
A fan-made online version of the ever popular Pokon game series, has been attacked by Nintendo with a Cease and Desist.
The online pokemon MMO, Pokenet, was home to 7000 players when it got it's Cease and Desist from Nintendo. The game allowed players to catch, evolve and trade their pokemon just as they would on one of the other RPG pokemon games, however it allowed that in a live multiplayer environment. The unfinished project was open-sourced, raising more questions as to why Nintendo attacked Pokenet specifically, as opposed to the other Pokemon MMO's available on the internet.
One of the games progammers spoke to the games site Joystiq to say the team was surprised when Nintendo hit them with a C&D in march, not least because the project is not the only fan made Pokon-inspired MMO out there - it was however the only open source one, Nushio said on the matter: "Just an idea though, don't take fandom to the level that you make a free, open-sourced game for people enjoy, because the copyright owner will apparently kick you in the shins."

Josh?
First paragraph seems very against Nintendo and for the Pokemon game, I dare say- "wat". The whole situation is pretty much a bunch of kids going "lol we can make a Pokemon game a MMORPG" and then they are like "hey why is Nintendo pissed", "oh yeah, we use their shits lolz!"
@ Dennis - Yeh, that's what I'm wondering. Been months since 'Semti' posted anything and the only reason this is news worthy isn't mentioned here (Apparently Nintendo seized all assets so whether that's for use or not we don't know but certainly interesting that they've seized the assets). As for the MMO, it was an unofficial game that infringed upon copyrights so it was rightfully shut down.
