Devkits for DS 2 rolled out?

According to reports, originating from our french colleagues at GameKult, several developers have already received a devkit for the successor of the Nintendo DS. You know what that means...

French gaming site GameKult claims to have received information from several of the larger developers (no names mentioned), that the first development kits for the "DS 2" have been rolled out already. According to those same sources, Nintendo is planning to release the successor near the end of 2010 already.

If the above is true, there's a big chance we'll learn the first facts on the new Nintendo DS during the Games Developers Conference (GDC) next month, or perhaps even during Nintendo's own Nintendo Media Summit on February 24th already. Of course, we'll keep you up to date so stay tuned!

  This kind of rumour was always going to start doing the rounds with a week to go before Nintendo has multiple media summits. I'm not surprised if dev kits are going out as it would make sense to get them out there early so developers can get to grips with the supposedly high specs. I just don't see the console coming this year, outside of Japan anyway. It'll be 6 years in November but the sales are still beating absolutely every other console on the market.

  ^ I'm still trying to work out who came up with the Kid Icarus Wii rumour, besides Miyamoto's comments of it coming to the console in 2005. That one still amazes, and annoys, me that it hasn't come to fruition.

  I'm an optimist. I still think we'll see something of Kid Icarus. Perhaps we'll see something next week at these media summits. *doesn't get his hopes up* But yes, I'm sure dev kits are in the hands of developers, or preliminary ones are to give them an idea of what Nintendo is thinking about for their next handheld. Makes sense as rumours say they haven't ironed out what they're doing with it yet.
