WII Next No More Heroes on Wii 2

Goichi Suda once stated in an interview that after No More Heroes 2, the company would move to another platform. Now everyone assumed he meant the PlayStation 3 or the XBox 360...

In a recent interview with our colleagues from 1UP, it becomes clear that we all misunderstood mr Goichi Suda when he stated that after No More Heroes 2, the company would move to another platform. Below a fragment from the new interview:

1UP: You mentioned once that No More Heroes 2 would be the last game in the series on Wii. Have you done any experiments on what it might be like on another platform, especially with the new motion controllers that have been announced for other systems?

GS: Actually, I answered differently, and it may have been misinterpreted. What I wanted to say was, looking at the Wii, I think No More Heroes 2 will probably be the last iteration for this current platform. But there's probably going to be a "Wii 2" or other next-gen system from Nintendo at some point, so I was saying that I would want to do another game in the series on the next Nintendo platform.

I want to continue the No More Heroes series, but I've finished the story for Travis. It's completely finished in No More Heroes 2. So I want to think of a different story -- a different character, or something like that within the series -- starting on the next Nintendo platform.

Lately, more and more rumours on a possible Wii 2 or Wii HD appeared. For now, we'll just have to wait and imagine what Nintendo has in store for us. After Nintendo officially announces the successor to Wii, we're sure to hear more about the No More Heroes-series.

  • So Suda 51 and Square are both wanting Wii HD

  • I don't understand the want for a Wii HD because if it happens, all it's bring with it is the ability to output games in high definition but no graphical upgrades beyond that and when many of the games on the Wii aren't exactly fantastic in the aesthetics department, a move to HD isn't going to help. So I'd say Wii HD isn't going to happen, regardless of what Michael Pachter says. Wii 2, however, certainly is but any new Nintendo console is stil some way off seeing as we're to get a new Mario, a new Metroid and a new Zelda next year, although the last title may well be pushed back till 2011. So there's no immediate need for a new console. But nice to see that Suda 51 wants to keep the series on Nintendo consoles for now.

  • 2011 is my guess too, well... the announcement, that is. At the moment, Wii is still distinguishing itself from the other consoles. There's simply no need for a Wii HD or anything alike. I do believe however that the next iteration might be a little more powerful than this one.

  • The next console will have to be significantly more powerful than the Wii otherwise those labelled as core fans will feel they are being left behind even with Nintendo's big 3 franchises. I'd reckon that they'll be at least trying to match high end 360/PS3 titles if not push beyond that to compete with the next wave of consoles from Microsoft and Sony respectively.

  • As a programmer, I know programming in a HD console would drive up programming and modeling time, in term increase cost. There is no "need" for it as Oboro Muramasa, Little King Story, Mario Galaxy and many other games looks great without it. It's just that the developers are losing money in this economy and they are looking for something to blame. If you know you are losing money with good product it must be the console that's at fault. That's the reason why Capcom is porting all of their Wii games onto PS3 and all "console exclusive" titles are now cross platform (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear...).
