ALL GamesCom Cologne - Photos

Earlier this week, Dennis traveled to Cologne (Germany), to attend at one of Europe's largest gaming conventions: GamesCom. Inside you can find a few of the pictures he took at the show.

First of all, we'd like to apologize for the somewhat low quality of the photos. For some reason the camera decided to act up right at this moment. Nonetheless we wanted to share them with you to give you the general idea of the show.

gamescom-nintendo1.jpgNintendo Booth When going to GamesCom as a Nintendo fan, what's the first place you'll visit? Exactly: the Nintendo booth. gamescom-nintendo2.jpgSome more at the Nintendo Booth And of course, you'll hang around that same booth some more as the games on display are interesting: New Super Mario Bros. for Wii, Style Savvy for Nintendo DS, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort and much, much more. gamescom-segabubble2.jpgNext up: SEGA Right next to Mario's booth stands his retro rival Sonic. Nowadays the two made up and often join forces in various contests such as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. SEGA however have trapped a girl in a bubble playing just that... gamescom-segabubble3.jpgTrapped all right She's in a bubble and doesn't seem to have any problems with that, just enjoying her session with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. gamescom-segaangel.jpgSEGA's Winter Wonder Land SEGA's entire booth had that Winter-y feeling. Snow everywhere, a big Christmas tree, Santa's in Mario-red and Sonic-blue, angels running around. Some of the angels were even complaining about the airco making them feel cold... gamescom-mariosonic.jpgBest Friends (Forever) A few minutes later we encounter the two mascottes in the hallway. Booth-babes from another stand who didn't have a clue who the big blue guy was just died for a photo... gamescom-legorock1.jpgLEGO Rock... Where's the band? Either no-one wanted to go first, or LEGO Rock Band didn't seem that interesting at the time. gamescom-beatles.jpgNo Beatles either... LEGO shouldn't be ashamed of itself, as the Beatles didn't show up for their play-session either. gamescom-gh5.jpgGuitar Hero: The goggles, what do they do? I have to admit I didn't have the guts to ask, but whether the game comes with those Cyclops-like goggles remains unknown. Fact is, there were people performing at the Guitar Hero 5 stand throughout the day. (you could hear them 3 halls down) gamescom-legorock2.jpgLEGO Rock... There's the band! A few hours and back-stage appointments later some people actually got on the LEGO Rock Band stand and saved the show with their performance. Hint: do not attempt to sing on stage if you're unsure about your skills. gamescom-scribblenauts.jpgTime for some creativity: Scribblenauts This was one I was eager to get my hands on myself: Scribblenauts for Nintendo DS. Everyone tries to be as creative as can be with this game, resulting into various attempts to catch a butterfly: throwing a net, shooting a gun (not rewarded), using a ladder, call in your uncle, lure the butterfly with a worm, etc. gamescom-hero.jpgWho's he? He looks friendly After a little session with Scribblenauts, you turn around and see this guy waving at you. Who is he? He looks way too friendly... What are his intentions? We just took a quick picture and got ourselves out of there... gamescom-various.jpgMore mascottes Back in the hallway we encounter more of those mascottes. Now we wondered why the pretty hot lady would hang around with a badger, a purple rabbit and a mouse-like critter. Should we conclude that all available press and trade representatives are less exciting than these three imaginary characters? gamescom-nerf.jpgTime for some activity: NERF Time to be a little more active again, and it seems many press and trade reps thought the same as the NERF-stand was swarmed with people almost whole day. Climbing, shooting, crawling, running, nothing was too much for this crowd. We doubt they'd play the Wii's upcoming NERF 2: N-Strike Elite at home like this. gamescom-ea.jpgThe Electronic Arts booth A little further we encounter Electronic Arts' full booth, divided in two parts: EA Games and EA Sports. After looking around at various games and a quick hands-on with Need for Speed: NITRO for Nintendo DS (somewhat disappointing) and FIFA 2010 on DS (plays pretty good), we decide to move on again. gamescom-tatsunoko.jpgThe Capcom booth Next up is the Capcom booth. As the different games were almost constantly occupied, we were happy we got a back-stage tour allowing us an inside view on both Tatsunoko VS. Capcom Ultimate All-Stars and Monster Hunter 3 Tri for Wii. gamescom-monstertri.jpgMonster Hunter 3 Tri If you've got some serious studying to do soon, stay clear from Monster Hunter 3 Tri! This game is addictive, and Capcom's reps found out the hard way: the evening prior to the start of GamesCom they got back form a party at about 1 AM, nothing wrong there. Now if someone at that time asks you to help fulfil that one quest on Monster Hunter 3 Tri, ignore him and go to bed. If not, you end up going to bed at about 4 AM with a big show following a few hours later... or so Capcom told us. gamescom-cyberbike.jpgThe Cyberbike... Fitness games, yoga, pilates, we've seen it all. Now on the floors we encountered the Cyberbike, a new way to control a game while exercising at the same time. Ingenious. gamescom-dance.jpgDo not attempt to dance... The last picture we took at the show (well, actually the last one we'll show): people playing a dancing game. If anyone else on the show had a video of this, it's bound to go on YouTube at instant. Honestly, why would you try to dance on stage if you have no feel for rhythm AT ALL?

  • I'm sorry I didn't take any more pictures but getting around all the stands, attending at my appointments AND taking pictures was just too much to do for one person in a single day. If anyone is interested in my opinion on any of the following games, let me know and I'll try to write something up: - C.O.P. The Recruit (AWESOME!) - New Super Mario Bros - Wii Fit Plus - Monster Hunter 3 Tri - Spyborgs - Scribblenauts - Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo - Yoga - Legend of Kay (Nintendo DS) - Zelda: Spirit Tracks - Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics

  • No sand, faux grass, palm trees or steel drum band at Nintendo's booth. Disgraceful :P Looks fun though. Would liked to have gone but maybe another year. Nice to see, though, that Scribblenauts was getting some big advertising, both from the booth and from a large mural behind the Nintendo booth. And that mascot picture... all that's missing is a whip. I'm sure I'm not the only one who had that pop into my head. Or maybe I am.

  • .. you're not ;)

  • Come on Nintendo, everybody wants Wii HD so just go ahead and give people what they want already. Sony just released the same console and marketed that as slim.
