ALL Free Radical May Be No More

In what seems to be a week of game developers closing down Free Radical can be added to that list.

Were you looking forward to the upcoming Timesplitters 4 which had a high chance on being released for the Nintendo Wii? Well with the recent news that Free Radical have closed their doors for good, the game may never see the light of day.

According to an anonymous inside source they had this to say about the reasoning behind the fall of Free Radical: 'œThey had already started working on TimeSplitters 4, and had been for over a year, but due to the failure of Haze and the deal falling through with Lucas, they couldn't get a publisher to back them. They had a last ditch attempt last week down South somewhere, but it came to nothing so I think that was the last hope.'?

With so many game developers having closed down recently, does this mean that really no one is safe from the economic crisis?

  • In UK there's big banking problems, and an independent developer like Free Radical Designs may be in trouble because of this.

  • Hmm, this was unexpected... :-/

  • It's a bad day for the British gaming industry. This one was really unexpected. However, it has emerged that quite a few members of Free Radical left in the weeks running up to this to start their own studio, Pumpkin Beach. So hope still remains for Timesplitters.

  • Free Radical is gone for good, it fell through a few days ago. Also, that Lucasarts project was Battlefront 3. Pumpkin Beach won't do Timesplitters. They apparently split partly becuse they didn't want to be associated with Timesplitters and to start something completely new, unique and unusual. I just hope someone picks up Timesplitters 4 project, the concept art and preview character models are awesome. • They don't split. Simply, they fired 200 employee and started Pumpkin Beach with other 20 employee.
