ALL Activision Explains Lack of DLC on GH:WT

Wondering why there aren't as many DLC (DownLoadable Content) songs on the Wii's version of Guitar Hero: World Tour? Well it isn't Activision's fault but rather music artists.

Below is a statement only today released by Activision which explains the reasoning behind the Nintendo Wii receiving few DLC songs on Guitar Hero: World Tour: "Due to technical or licensing restrictions, the DLC offerings will not be the same for every console platform. For example, certain artists prefer to keep the integrity of the track pack rather than releasing singles and the Wii's infrastructure only allows us the ability to release single songs as DLC. We are very excited to be the first third-party publisher to bring a library of playable DLC songs to the Nintendo Wii platform. Vicarious Visions has pioneered with Nintendo a seamless way to download, store and access songs via SD Card. The development team is committed to offering Wii fans worldwide as much variety of DLC as possible on a regular basis."

So if Artists prefer keeping songs in a track pack, which the Wii can't offer, then why do the very same artists allow for single song downloads on iTunes?

  • The whole downloadble content was a bad idea anyway, it promots incomplete and to be released early. Microsoft and others had the idea of releasing patches and updates, that just mean they don't need to perform as much testing. Then when people complains about bugs they will work on such and release patches, updates, and downloadable contents. So people who downloads are actually working for Microsoft for free. Why pay an army of testers $65,000 a year each when you can have people who are paying you to work for you as well. Just Karl Marx, once a great idea is now abused by the companies.

  • $65.000 a year isn't much, that's about two fulltime salaries. The gaming industry is pretty behind the normal IT sector, where testers can get pretty high salaries...
