WII Photo Channel Update Announced

Nintendo of America has revealed that the Photo Channel is due for an update.

On the official Wii homepage, Nintendo has revealed that the Photo Channel on Wii will be updated next month. Basically, two changes will be made to the channel:

  1. You can choose one of your own pictures to be used as the background image of the channel on the Wii menu, and
  2. MP3 playback will be removed, yet AAC files will be supported. Additionally, you can now choose to have the songs play back in a random order.

The new Photo Channel will be available from the Wii Shop Channel early December. New Wii consoles will already feature the updated channel. Consumers who purchase a Wii console with the updated Photo Channel already installed will not be able to install the previous version to support MP3 playback.

  • Could this mean that we may be getting a music channel for our Wii's to allow for MP3 playback? Hopefully. I think the MP3 playback on the Photo Channel was the only reason some people used it.

  • I doubt it ganepark32. Not quite sure why exactly Nintendo ditched MP3 support, could be the license costs (which I doubt due to the very low costs)
