ALL Exclusive: Alone in the Dark Official

Time for a new exclusive. We claimed the release of Alone in the Dark for Nintendo DS and Wii back in May. Now, Atari made it official.

back in May, DS-x2 broke the news that Alone in the Dark 5: Near Death was heading for the Nintendo DS and Wii. Our sources, several European retailers, were not able to back up these claims leading to a little unbelieve by our colleague sites. Today, we can enlighten all with the news that the game is indeed heading for the Nintendo DS and Wii.

Atari has confirmed the existance of both versions, and added that the title is heading for the PC, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP and Xbox 360 as well. Not much information on the Nintendo versions has been released yet, but we did get confirmation that the Nintendo DS and PSP versions will be based on the console versions and feature special 'functionalities'.

On Wii, Atari was able to explain the controls briefly. In short, Alone in the Dark uses the Wiimote to control the camera, aim and shoot your weapon and control just about every object in your environment (ranging from fire extinguisher to tables and chairs). The Nunchuk-controller is used to move your character.

One of the special functionalities on the handheld versions has been revealed to us already: the PSP title can be linked up with its Playstation 3 counterpart. During the game, PSP owners can receive txt-messages (SMS) from other characters within the game. Also, the PSP will be able to display a realtime map while you're playing on the Playstation 3.

Furthermore, Atari claims that the handheld versions will feature gameplay like the PC title In Memoriam, in a setting which reminds one of the movie Se7en. Creepy...

 • gosh, back in May? insider info? you don't say? pity Atari officially told another site about all 5 ports back in April. http://www.areagames.de/areagames/article/13455/AreaGames-Interview-Alone-in-the-Dark-englisch.aspx "exclusive" my ass. owned!

 • If Atari tells us it's exclusive, are we supposed to stray the entire web to see whether anyone else has something similar? I guess not. Secondly, seeing the amounts of attention this is getting, not much people knew about that interview (neither did I). For that reason, the above is justified in my opinion.

 • You not being aware of what was already common knowledge does not justify claiming this story as an "exclusive".

 • No, but an Atari employee claiming it is... is

 • Look Zenith... you may have heard this elsewhere back in April but for many people this will be the first time they'll have heard it confirmed. It is for me and I thank Dennis and the team for posting the news. Just because you heard it elsewhere awhile ago doesn't mean you need to be an ingrate. Be thankful they are giving you news.
