ETC Help Out DS-x2

Yes, even DS-x2 needs help. And this time we call in the readers to help out! Don't worry, we don't want your money.

During the past years, DS-x2 has been delivering fresh content on the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance scene (as can also be read in the history of DS-x2). With the announcement of the Wii, we investigated whether our readers were also interested in Wii news through the Wii-x2 (formerly Revo-x2) outlet. The outcome of this try-out was that Wii coverage is much enjoyed, but that there was a wish to combine it with the usual Nintendo DS and GBA coverage.

Recently, our visitors have witnessed the merging of our two sites: DS-x2 and Wii-x2. Apart from the merging, we also introduced a whole new layout of the site. Although we know that every change comes with problems and mankind usually disagrees with every change from the current situation, we hope that everyone is getting used to the new layout and that all major problems have been ironed out. If you are still experiencing problems on DS-x2 or have a good suggestion on how to further improve the site, please let us know about through our contact-forms and we'll look into the issues a.s.a.p.

But there's more you can do. DS-x2 needs your help.

By merging the two sites, we more-or-less promise our readers that we'll continu to actively report on ongoing Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS newswhile we will also cover the Wii platform. With the current staff, we can't promise full coverage though... And that's where you might come in!

DS-x2 asks its readers to help us out. Helping us can be done in two ways:

  1. Submit content
  2. Apply for a staff position
Submit Content Many readers have done so in the past, and we're always very happy to see that readers are willing to share their findings with other visitors of DS-x2. We're talking here about the news-submit. If you find an interesting story on a Nintendo DS, GBA or Wii related subject, let us know about it and we'll decide whether or not to publish a newsarticle based on your tip. Rest assured, you don't need to send in a complete and ready-to-publish article yourself (although we would like that); Sending us a URL and short description of what we should look into is more than enough. Of course we'll always mention your name as a thank-you note if we decide to publish an article based on your tip.

Apply for a staff position The second way to help us out is to apply for a staff position. DS-x2 is in need of various members who like to help out on a regular basis. Of course we only want people who understand the true spirit of DS-x2, and who knows DS-x2 better than its own audience? Currently, we're in need of various people with various skills. Below is a small summary of the kinds of people we'd love to enclose in the staff:

  • Newsies DS-x2's core competence is delivering fresh news around the clock, every single day. With more platforms to cover and increased interest in the gaming scene, it's easy to understand that we're expecting more news than ever before. As even the godlike DS-x2 staffers have their limits, we're in search for people with good feeling for 'news'.

    Profile:

    • You often find news we haven't posted about;
    • You like to write and share your content with others;
    • You can write decent English, both your grammar and spelling are correct;
    • You know basic HTML (bold, italic, images, hyperlinks);
    • You can do some basic image-editing (resizing, cropping, exporting as a different file format such as jpeg or gif)
    • You're available at least a few days per week, for several hours.
  • Game managers At DS-x2 we've got a huge database filled with information on loads of Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and Wii titles. Of course this database has to be kept up-to-date. We're looking for people who like to fill in the blanks in our games-database by finding the blanks, search for the answers and update the game-information. Apart from the plain facts on games, the game managers also take care of adding newly announced titles to the database and adding screenshots and boxarts for all titles.

    Profile:

    • You like to be 'complete', gaps in the database are a definite no-go for you;
    • You like to search for that missing info, even if it involves contacting the developers;
    • You can write decent English, both your grammar and spelling are correct;
    • You can do some basic image-editing (resizing, cropping, exporting as a different file format such as jpeg or gif)
    • You're often available to check whether something slipped through.
  • Graphics artist We admit. The miniboxes at the top of DS-x2 are not exactly high-quality graphics. Hence why we're looking for someone capable of enhancing DS-x2 with good-looking graphics. If you're good with Photoshop, do a really good job with Google's Picasa or master MS Paint, then you might be the one we're looking for.

    Profile:

    • You've got a great feeling for style;
    • You can take criticism, as not everyone will love what you create;
    • You can present us some of your work;
    • You're often available to check whether new graphics are needed.
For all of the above 'jobs', one must keep in mind that participation at DS-x2 is on a totally voluntary basis as DS-x2 is not a profit-organisation (in fact, we're the opposite). The only reward you'll get, is to see your name on the DS-x2 Staff page.

If you feel you're up for the task, please contact us using the contact form.

  • I submit news quite often(as you might know) but it's not always published/posted. Because of that, I would think half of my news as a staff member would be too random...or something.
