Super Smash Bros. Brawl Revealed
Miyamoto has just revealed Smash Bros. for the Wii at a developer event, which will feature a number of new characters. Update: Movie now available! Another Update: Screenshots added to our screenshots-section.
The one question on everybody's lips after the Nintendo press conference seemed to be, "Where's Smash Bros.?" Well, apparently they were holding it back for show on the floor of E3 - and it certainly looks worth the wait.
Joystiq has reported that the game will at least five new characters; Pit from Kid Icarus, Zero Suit Samus, Metaknight, Wario...and Snake. Yes, that Snake. Miyamoto said that Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series begged him to put Snake in Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube, but that game was already too far into its development cycle to do so. No such problems this time round, and series producer Masahiro Sakurai has reported that there is the definite possibility of more third party characters making it into the game, including, possibly, Sonic.
The game will not be a launch title, despite earlier reports to the contrary, and will instead be seeing a 2007 release. It is also the first Wii title to be confirmed not to be using the Wii-mote - instead using the GameCube controller so as not to alienate those who prefer the traditional pad.
The movie can be seen here, as part of the Smash Bros. official site.
