E3 2007
Downsizing!
After high-level discussions and 48 hours of rabid gossip, the biggest games show of them all is downsizing. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has confirmed that E3 is to change completely - becoming far more intimate. It wants to focus on targeted or even personalized meetings and events. Details have not been finalized, but the revised event looks set to remain in Los Angeles and will likely keep its May slot.
"The world of interactive entertainment has changed since E3 Expo was created 12 years ago," said ESA president Doug Lowenstein.
"It has become clear that we need more personal dialogue with the worldwide developers, retailers and other key industry audiences."
The spiraling cost of attendance plus regional events such as Tokyo Game Show and Games Convention Leipzig have increased the pressure for change.
"It is no longer necessary or efficient to have a single industry mega-show," admitted Lowenstein.
"By refocusing on a highly-targeted event, we think we can do a better job serving our members and the industry as a whole."
From DS-x2 point of view we have seen the importance of E3 decline over the years and a great deal of publishers now choose not to reveal all their titles at the LA based show but at other events later in the year.

It was indeed. The whole year has been pretty good too and we still have the Wii to come.
I would have thought after E3 2K6 that it would have gotten bigger...not smaller.
Well, to say the least, I'm disappointed because I never got to go to it, but at least it was a hugely important and memorable E3 for Nintendo. Also, It's kind of cool how many records were broken on its final full sized show.
So my guess is no major announcements come at E3 '07 (Why would they when TGS and others are now far more important?), and the show gets cancelled entirely.
Spaceworld ftw! Please, Nintendo, make it happen!
It is a shame yes, but like this the European and Japanese shows will get more of a chance. I will miss the big E3 signs on game sites though.
E3 is my favorite event to follow online. This disappoints me...
Luckily there is CES too...
E306 was a Grand year for Nintendo.
