Is the DS slowly becoming the next PSP?
Datel finally releases the first DS-only hard drive for the DS at a hefty price. Screenshots and review link inside.
Now I usually wouldn't consider this news but seeing as it's a major leap for our portable little friend, it seems important. Datel after a few months of teasing us with all the possibilities of being able to store your favourite tunes, videos and other type of media on your DS has finally released it to all the major stores in America and Canada.
The gigantic double-slot add on for the Nintendo DS has room for 4 full gigabytes of whatever you wish and comes with a $150 price tag. Home brewers will be happy with endless possibilities of programming, music fans should suffice with the mediocre music machine but movie buffs may be disappointed by the poor video quality. More is explained in the link below.

its pretty crapy from what ive heard so i wont buy it.
Likewise. *dusts off PSP* However, it must be pretty crazy to play your own games via touch screen. **Also, the picture of Lost(?) playing on the DS is fake, I assume, from hearing about the video quality on the DS thus far.
Ds will never be like a PSP. It's huge, and it's ugly. With that price, do yourself a favor. Go buy a 2.5/2.6 PSP, downgrade it to a 1.5, and download as much homebrew to your heart's desire.
You're forgetting the horrendous PSP memory card costs. 1 gig isn't that bad, price-wise, but a 4 gig is going for over $200.
Stan have you ever heard of the DS lite? I have one right in front of me and it definately isn't ugly. I'd say now the DS and PSP are evenly matched as far as looks.
This thing's not worth a penny. Trust me.
First, the Max 4GB HDD is a third party extension, so Nintendo has nothing to do with it. Hence, it's gamer's choice of turing NDS into a media player, not DS's choice. Second, I purchased it for $160 (after tax) in Best Buy about four weeks ago and it sucked. By default, you can only play MP3 and JPG files. If you want to play any other music files, you have got to use other programs convert that into MP3 first. If you want to play any movie files, you have first find a converter. After spending an hour converting a 3 minutes clip you downloaded from the web and with resolution and refresh rate reduction, the clip looks horrible in the end. Not only conversion takes a long time but it also reduce the graphics dramatically. They also mentioned that you can play homebrew games. Not only mentioned, they have also gave you a link to the sites hosting homebrew games. What they didn't told you is that you cannot play it on Max drive, only for M3 Adapter and others. Since this is a hard disc drive not a flash drive like MP3 players, you have to be care on not shaking it too hard or the drive might crash (reading head and maganetic discs scratching problem.) I continuously e-mailed Dantel about these problems and receieved no reply. In conclusion, this is just a very expensive MP3 memory stick.
The simple truth is, you can do all of these things with a $50 Supercard and Moonshell (free) and a flashed Nintendo DS. Chances are you have SD or CF sticks laying around to use in the Supercard - no extra cost there. No big bulky drive sticking out, etc. It is very much akin to selling "DVD Rippers" retail that are all freeware tools combined into a common interface. Stand clear.
"Stan have you ever heard of the DS lite? I have one right in front of me and it definately isn't ugly. I'd say now the DS and PSP are evenly matched as far as looks." Okay, Liongate. I HAVE a Lite. I'm saying that if you buy this thing, it'll look SO Ugly on the Lite. It already pops out of the regular DS, and if you use this on the Lite, then you're just wasting money on this huge thing.
