NDS Let There Be Lite

Unofficially available for the last few days, but today's the day Europe gets to see the light officially.

Nintendo's sleek new hand-held console, the Nintendo DS Lite launches across Europe today following its phenomenal success in Japan and America. Now Europeans can enjoy all of their favourite games on a lighter, brighter Nintendo DS, available in black and white versions.

Nintendo DS Lite is an improved version of the highly successful Nintendo DS, which has already been bought by more than 4.5 million people across Europe since its launch.

When it launched in Japan and America earlier this year the Nintendo DS Lite was an overnight success, wooing consumers with its new redesign. Two days after its launch in America, the Nintendo DS Lite had sold a staggering 136.500 units with many major retailers totally selling out. The Nintendo DS Lite has been selling so fast that it is even outperforming the 2003 launch of the Game Boy Advance SP by 12%.

As Summer draws close the Nintendo DS Lite is the perfect holiday companion, with a strong line-up of software including: the recently launched Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? a unique and innovative application which allows users to test and train their brain in just a few minutes a day; and the first side scrolling Mario platform game since the days of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, New Super Mario Bros. which launches on 30th June 2006.

The Nintendo DS Lite will join the Nintendo hand-held range in two colours at launch black and white and will retail for around £100. The Nintendo DS Lite launches across Europe today, Friday the 23rd June 2006.

Of course, you can let us know whether you bought a DS Lite yourself and your experiences in the comments section below.

  • Gotta say, i'm loving my black one. You really have to see to believe with the Lite. I have one lazy (not dead) green pixel, that should kick to life after a few hours. Nice one Ninty!

  • It is cool, but a classic DS is sufficient to me. P.S.: If you have dead pixels, Nintendo will change your DS for free (it is the warranty). Even if it is only one (instead, Sony change your PSP only if pixels are more than seven and contiguous).

  • I just got the 4GB Max HDD for my DS for $160 (after tax) in Best Buy rather than $186 like it was listed on their website. So, I am going to be short on cash for a while, hence no NDS Lite until next month.
