Nintendo DS shortages continue and prices are still high, but as you can see the DS still managed to take the top spot on the hardware charts away from the PSP this week. The PSP could not keep up the momentum it had over the holidays and is now selling less then the DS even while shortages continue. Nintendo says that they will increase their shipment of the DS at the end of the month so the DS should regain the year to date sales lead the PSP still has over it sometime in February.

  • Good to see the DS back on top! :-) XBox360 is selling like crazy in Japan! ;-)

  • I didn't think Super Mario Strikers would do so good. Didn't think soccer was a big thing in Japan.

  • Notice the lack of PS2 software in the top ten? First time i've seen that happen. Nintendo and DS kicking ass again and DS sales back at top like it should be.

  • @ SwigGy: Soccer is huge in Japan and Europe. Winning Eleven games, for instance, will always garner at least a spot in the Top 5 Software for a couple weeks. Shouldn't be too much of a surprise considering it's Mario + the beloved soccer. I also noticed the lack of PS2 software. I'm quite surprised that Kingdom Hearts II came and went pretty quickly for a pretty highyly anticipated title. O_o. I'll have to check up on placements at the Media Create site.

  • DS shortages will end with January. Glad to see that Nintendo DS is back on top even if there is still a shortage.

  • Sqiggy: Actually, strikers did do quite well but not as good as the other 2 major hits you can tell by looking at strikers and then the games after it.
