NDS DS SP?

According to the latest edition of Famitsu, a "revision of hardware" is in the works.

Our German colleagues from Gamefront are reporting that the latest edition of Famitsu magazine reads about a new revision of hardware. The article in the Japanese magazine does not specify which platform the revision is based on, but storekeepers are pretty confident the article is referring to a new Nintendo DS.

The new hardware is said to be scheduled for a (Japanese) release during Spring 2006.

  • This is pretty old news, it was stated in a interview some time ago that they were working on a SP version of the Nintendo DS.

  • Man... Nintendo keeps selling old stuff over and over again...

  • could be good. if it's a complete makeover with bigger screen, better graphics and all the rest of it, then yeah, i'll buy it(or trade my old one in for this one) but if it's just a thinner version, then nintendo can kiss my a**. i think that we still need more info about it first.

  • The console in question will most likely be a Nintendo DS revision. Why would they introduce a new gba revision so soon after the GBM? That wouldn't make sense. Also, I have a strong hunch that this Nintendo DS revision's design will liken to that of the nintendo revolution design. Think it about it: we all know nintendo will implement connectivity options between the nintendo ds (Zelda Four Swords for the GBA and GCN) and the revolution, so why not make them look alike? :) Personally, I can't wait for the first screenshots of the DS resign because in all honesty, the ds is kind of ugly - I love the darn thing though, so much so that I develop for it - but at times, esp while playing GBA games, the DS just feels like a huge blue/gray brick. Also! Have you compared the brightness of the new GBA screen to the DS screen? The diffirence is brightness is huge and should be something to expect from the new DS revision. I guess all we can do is hope!

  • Hey lesomeguy: After Feel the Magic and Castlevania, I am worried that my touchpad and Y-button may be damaged. So, might as well trade it in for a new one. If its bin less then a year or even a little over, and you call nintendo they might get you a new one. My R button stoped working and I got a new one. :d

    :[Wala]: -->?!?, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • I might trade it. I wouldn't mind it.

  • Maybe they'll include the much wanted Wi-Fi PictoChat... Or something. I really don't know, and I probably won't be able to get it anyway.

  • im good with my ds but shouldnt they call it ds_micro

    fat-starr, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • im fine with my ds.. at first it was big clunky bu tnow its perfect.

    darkshadow61, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • I hope it's a new DS. I love the thing, but it's pretty ugly and the face buttons aren't the most confortable things.

  • this is the gameboy thing happening all over again.....man this sucks but i could use a smaller ds anyway

    cha-chingo, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • they could ultimately change the design of the system, and looking at my DS, there are many parts where it could be slimmed; having the exsisting components replaced with newer/smaller/more effecient components.

    MikeMania, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • i'm always upgrading gameboys and i vowed to my parents that the ds is my last one. only if a live tv is added to the "DS SP" would it be my last.

    DBCity, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • the only way the ds could get any smaller is if they take ou tthe GBA slot an d they will never do that since the rumble feature has been made and band brothers exspansion pack was introduced. it will probably be a shiner ds

    yofrancis26, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • A redesinged DS isn't going to get smaller without loosing loosing something, I don't think. Anyways, maybe it is not a redesigned DS. Maybe its a GBA+Cell phone or a really cheap version of the Cube...

    moo_man, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • i think its will be a redesigned ds

    gi4d2, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • hmmm I think it could be either a new gameboy or a revised DS. Usually when they finish work on one gameboy they get to work on the next gen gameboy right away.

    NPC, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • If DS-SP means a smaller DS, i buy the old one.

    Olpus Bonzo, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • We already knew they were in the works of a "DS SP" for awhile now. Reggie mentioned that "we are looking at ways to tweak and improve the current design of the DS" like way back in September. He even said that we can expect to see the new DS released probably around Feb or March. I thought maybe they had some more news on that. I guess not.
