Mario Kart DS Huge Success Online
Nintendo just released the first online figures for Mario Kart DS, check inside to see the huge numbers.
As of today Mario Kart DS has had over 45% of buyers play online. In it's first week on the market it sold 112,000 copies of which 52,000 unique users played through the online service known as Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
"We are ecstatic with the results, and this definitely sets the standard for future Wi-Fi online gaming,Mario Kart should easily be a million seller in its life cycle, and we'd love for everyone with the game to touch the Wi-Fi experience. We've got Animal Crossing just around the corner, and Metroid Prime Hunters next year, with more to come." says Beth Lewellyn.
This smashes the record set by Halo 2 for 18% of owners playing online after three weeks of release rather than one.

that's pretty good :) Still not nintendo's aim of 90% but good none the less. I've been playing it online and it's a blast. Except for all the bloody disconnecters though....
opium, nintendos goal of 90% wasnt for its first week, it was after a couple months or so. 45% in the first week is amazing and is an outstanding achievemient, especiallly for nintendo since this is their first stab at online.
I helps when the online service is free and doesnt require a creditcard to setup(xbox live) good work Ninty!
Good News by E3 2006 they maybe able to say they have more people online than xbox live
"smashes the record set by Halo 2 for 18% of owners playing online after three weeks" I love when X-Box loses... :P
i wouldnt say x-box lost as halo 2 sold alot more copies then mario kart did so of course the % would be lower. but ya mario kart is quite fun online (since i got my usb port) :D
