NDS Updated Dig Dug confirmed for the US

Namco's remake of the classic 80s arcade game hits North America. Update Real facts of the game have arrived.

Namco Hometek revealed that their upcoming Dig Dug DS game, Dig Dug: Digging Strike, will be heading to the US in the fall. The release date is stated to be September 20th, just 12 days after the Japanese release.

For those of you unfamiliar, Dig Dug (or it's more popularly known clone Zig Zag) is a game where you have to clear all the monsters in the stage by either chipping at the rock to fin them and then pumping the monsters full of air until they explode, or by dropping rocks on them.

Dig Dug: Digging Strike combines elements from the original Dig Dug and its successor, Dig Dug II. However, the gameplay is more true to the original Dig Dug.

There is currently no announcement for a European release, but with the North American release just confirmed I'm sure it's just a matter of time before Namco announces a European release and date.

Update Real facts of the game have arrived.

Whether tackling the underground alone or wirelessly with a friend, gamers will discover 15 stages with more than 80 areas in Dig Dug: Digging Strike. Players will explore 3D environments on the top screen of the DS, then plunge underground on the bottom screen to dig and connect fault lines that will trap monsters. Only by sinking enemy bosses do players move to the next level ? and they will encounter some familiar faces along the way. The dreaded Pooka and Fygar are back to threaten Dig Dug, along with a host of never-before-seen bosses. Dig Dug is armed with a series of thrilling weapons to combat monsters as well as elements from the environment including rolling rocks, quicksand and flowing lava.

Two additional features in Dig Dug: Digging Strike are an item collection challenge ? special items help the player navigate difficult levels ? and a set of new mini-games. The mini-games such as Horivalou and Hori X are light-hearted parodies of classic Namco games. Successful completion of the mini-games helps Dig Dug break up the islands and defeat the monsters once and for all!

  • Crap. Now I don't know if I should get Lunar: Dragon Song or Dig Dug: Digging Strike first.
