Play-Yan Update Now Available
The previously reported firmware update to the Play-Yan device is now available for download.
Nintendo has now released the firmware update for the Play-Yan on their website with a 544KB ZIP file that will allow MP4 playback on the Play-Yan in true stereo sound. After unzipping the zip file, its contents must be extracted to the root directory of the SD card. It's as simple as that.
A preview clip is available with the update, showcasing Link and Sheik from Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube.
However, the MediaStage software that is bundled with Play-Yan has not been updated to encode MP4 videos. The update that will allow that will come soon within July or August, according to Nintendo. Until then, any other MP4 encoding software can be used.
The update can be found here.
