NDS Nintendo DS Hacked!

The Big Piracy Debate Part 756.

It had to happen sooner or later but it does appear that the DS has been hacked making the latest releases easy to download illegally onto a readable cart. The same happened with the GBA some years ago although Nintendo did successfully halt the production of ?flash? carts from a number of producers. This device is very similar to that used on the GBA but it remains to be seen what impact in will have on game production.

As usual, we?ll keep you posted.

  • huh, i don't recall nintendo halting production of certain gba flashcarts. The ds has been hacked for quite a while. The GST roms will work with the neoflash nds flashkit however the clean dumps that are now available in the plenty wont work without a loader. which hasn't been released yet. The next few months should certainly be very interesting with the release of more nds flashkits. Exciting stuff :)

  • Nintendo took out a court injunction against a handful of producers some years ago. Other simply ignored the requests however.

  • Super Card for DS and GBA has been out for weeks. Avaliable for about 5 USD ~ 15 USD based on size, can be purchased from China on-line. But Japanese copyright and US copyright has no effect in China, so there is nothing Nintendo can do.

  • By the way, China is also selling iQue DS, the "Chinese version" of Nintendo DS. So all you have to do is spend about $100 to buy an iQue DS from China, $50 for some cartridges, and you can play any and all DS games. I don't think those Chinese people have the concept of "copyright".
