so does this mean better graphics? i dont get it.
In layman's terms, yes it does mean better graphics in videos. Like Intro movies and cutscene movies. In essence, it sounds to me that they made a DS-hardware specific encoder so higher bitrate videos can decode in real time, and they're providing an SDK to embed such a movie in games.
kool
This is VERY good news for our DS RPGs.
that means in game cut scenes for RPG's and such!!!!! I want a Final Fantasy game now!!!
^ Yup, thats just what Square-Enix ordered XD FF3 with sweet-ass cutscenes. Maybe FMV cutscenes with voice acting, I mean, who knows?! On old but useful news, when the N64 & PS1 days were among us & FF7 had just been released on PS1 a company offered to port the ENTIRE GAME WITH ALL CUTSCENES onto 1 N64 cartridge. Squaresoft refused because of there relation with Nintendo. Now think about this, since the DS cart can hold more than twice the n64 carts, it would be possible to port FF7 / 8 / 9 on 1 cart. (Not together, seperate titles)
That would be cool, skarm, but I doubt that Sony would ever let Nintendo use FF7. Its their current FF cash cow. =p
This is good news!
