Ubisoft Takeover Fought Back
After Electronic Arts bought a 19.9% share of Ubisoft, several parties stand up to defend Ubisoft against a possible takeover...
Two weeks ago, Electronic Arts announced that they had bought 19.9% of Ubisofts shares. Several parties suspected a hostile takeover by EA and have joined forces to defend Ubisoft from this.
Vivendi Universal already contacted Ubisoft about taking a stake of Ubisoft to prevent Electronic Arts from a hostile bid on the remainder of the shares. In the meantime, Infogrames (the company behind Atari) has told news-agency Reuters that they're ready to play a role in the defence to prevent a US company to increase its position in Europe.
Apart from the help from the gaming industry itself, Ubisoft has also got the French government to back them up. The French are concerned about 20 smaller developers currently under Ubisoft's wings.
For the moment, Ubisoft is far from going down...
