First NDS Sales Figures
Nintendo has announced the first-week sales of the Nintendo DS. Did you know there was a shortage? Updated Reggie Fils-Aime comments on the figures.
One day prior to the Japanese release, Nintendo has announced that during the first week after the official launch in the US region 500.000 NDS units were sold. This half-a-million units represents 90% of the total available units in that period. During the same week Nintendo also managed to sell 800.000 GBA's (including the GBA SP), a one-week sales record for handheld gaming.
Nintendo expects to sell 1.000.000 Nintendo DS units in North-America before the end of the year and believes it will reach the 5-million mark (worldwide) by the end of March 2005.
Update Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing, commented on the first sales figures. "Consumers have voted the Nintendo DS as the hot item this holiday, so if you see one, you'd better buy it," says Reggie Fils-Aime, "Nintendo owns the hand-held market, and once again we're the hit of the holiday season."
