Online reseller Gamestop claims two Nintendo DS game boxarts. Whether these are fake or not: read the whole story...

The first boxart was published over a week ago on Gamestop's website. The boxart is said to be of Activisions Spiderman 2 DS.

Was this just a temporary placeholder by Gamestop, or did they somehow got the first boxart from Activision? No-one knows as to date. However, today Gamestop came up with this:

A few things come to mind when we look at this box. First of all, the very same side is used as in the Spiderman 2 DS box. Secondly, all four 'main' characters from the game are shown on the box: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Wario. On the other hand, there are also a few points that look rather dodgy...

Take a look at the name of the game: "Super Mario 64 DS". As far as we know (and as far as Nintendo of America's online press center goes), the game was titled Super Mario 64x4. Also, the logo used looks pretty familiar:

Even though we've tried to use this official Super Mario 64 (from the N64) to create a perfect fit on this box, we didn't succeed. Somehow, the creator of this boxart decided to shrink the number 64 more than the rest of the logo. Secondly, the colors of the word 'Super' changed to solid blue in the new boxart. This wasn't a simple hoax by putting a logo on top of an image and try to sell it as 'genuine'. Closer inspection of the box also revealed that the chromed 'DS' isn't placed exactly horizontally.

Whether the boxes shown are just a temporary mock-up by Gamespot to use as a placeholder, simply a hoax or concept art from Nintendo themselves: it all remains shrouded for now.
