According to GameSpot, a report from TNI Securities shows that the Nintendo DS will allow voice-over-IP chat.
In its Electronic Entertainment Industry Update, TNI Securities reports that the Nintendo DS will be able to allow free voice-over-IP chat using the recently (by us) revealed headset together with the 802.11b networking standard over free WiFi hotspots.
So in normal talk: what does this mean? Free phone calls using the Nintendo DS!
Analyst Boris Markovich commented on the story with: "The headset will allow gamers to use the DS as a phone handset enabling free phone calls over wireless network hotspots. We think that this will be a very compelling application of the handset."
Markovich added that, despite the recent rumours about a postponed releasedate, his research pointed out that the DS remains "on track" for a 2004 release in both the US and Japan.
