ETC GBA 2... DS

Various sources are suddenly talking about the Game Boy Advance successor. And they don't point at the Nintendo DS...

point at the Nintendo DS...

According to various Japanese websites and a few European ones, Nintendo is dropping more and more clues about the GBA's successor. A few months ago, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata already said that the Nintendo DS was more like an experiment to test the market's reaction to new technologies.

Recently, David Gosen spoke at the ELSPA Games Summit and admitted that Nintendo is indeed already working on the GBA's successor. "new Game Boy iterations are under review right now, before the first DS is sold," spoke Gosen. He added that the releasedate for the new handheld was not yet determined: it all depends on how the NDS performs on the current market. If the NDS sells hotcakes, Nintendo has a stronger position to enhance the GBA2 even more and delay the releasedate of the successor. Rest assured, even if the NDS fails miserably and the Sony PSP will eat market share like crazy, the GBA2 won't hit the stores before early 2006.

Now on to the rumours... According to several Japanese forums, a leaked document showing some of the GBA2's specs has hit the Internet. One of the key features mentioned would be GC-disc playback. We haven't seen this document yet, so for now we'll just point this story to the rumour mill...
