According to GamePro, our guesses were right: Metroid: Zero Mission is indeed a remake of the original Metroid (NES).

Don't start crying just yet, because Nintendo would be Nintendo if they didn't add some new stuff...improved graphicsnew areas to explorenew moves for Samus (from more recent Metroid titles) and...a map system like the one from Super Metroid or Castlevania: SotN.
