Miyamoto set to retire from current position
The mastermind behind many of Nintendos key franchises, Miyamoto is set to retire from his current position.
"Inside our office, I've been recently declaring, 'I'm going to retire, I'm going to retire,'" Miyamoto said through his interpreter. "I'm not saying that I'm going to retire from game development altogether. What I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position."
So while Miyamoto will still be at Nintendo, he will no longer be one of the names behind key franchises such as The Legend of Zelda and Mario. Instead he plans to focus on his new role at Nintendo which will allow him to develop smaller personal projects. His goal is to either work in smaller teams comprised of young developers or work by himself on his new projects. Miyamoto plans to have something to show late in 2012.

Good for him. Giving more room for him to create games that he like as opposed to long term big projects. Also giving new guys a chance to shine without Miyamoto overshadowing everyone else.
