Nintendo will allow paid DLC for their consoles
Nintendo is set to enhance the offerings available using digital distribution methods on both the 3DS and upcoming Wii U by allowing paid DLC.
However the company has stated they won't be using it themselves though at this stage, making this feature one most likely suggested by third parties during periods of Nintendo working with them to enhance the online experience. If they do use the service they are offering, "low quality paid download content" will not be offered by Nintendo.
Nintendo feels that paid DLC is a tricky business, and that it can damage the relationship with customers.
Iwata has noted that while more people are using the 3DS online services more than on the previous handheld, it still isn't enough. Nintendo aims to increase their digital business by 5-10% over the next three years.
