3DS Nintendo to switch from Opera to NetFront for 3DS browser

It's been confirmed by Nikkei (a Japanese newspaper), that Nintendo has decided to switch from Opera to NetFront for the 3DS. NetFront is developed by ACCESS.

Opera has been used in the past generation for Nintendo devices. The DS, DSi and Wii all featured an Opera based browser. However Nintendo will use NetFront for the 3DS browsing experience.

NetFront has a range of browsing standards supported under its belt. With newer web standards such as HTML 5 and CSS3 been supported by the browser.

NetFront is best known as been used in Sony devices, such as the PS3 and PSP.

The browser will be available on the 3DS in the planned May update.

  • Is that a good thing? DSi and Wii's Opera browser runs a lot better than PS3 and 360's browser. It doesn't do much of the fancy things but it runs a lot smoother. I wonder how this new browser will run compare to Opera.
