WII Wii 2 when the Wii hits 45M?

Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime is pretty quiet when it comes to Nintendo's next big move, however his latest is bound to disappoint anyone waiting for the Wii 2.

While Reggie Fils-Aime says that the Wii is still doing very strong - hitting 30 million units worldwide - it would not be time to start talking about any sort of follow up to the Wii's success. Yet.

"As we sit here today we're saying the Wii has many, many more units to sell," said Reggie. "After we've reached an installed base of 45 million here in the US, we can have a conversation about the next generation."

This means we all could be waiting some time, but with both the Xbox and the PS3 both getting new leases of life with the Kinect and Move, respectively, Nintendo will have to make a move soon or be left behind entirely. Perhaps we'll see a glimpse of what Nintendo's plans are in the upcoming E3. Until then, we'll be left in the dark.

  • Don't expect it to be revealed next year. 2011 will pretty much be dedicated to getting the 3DS off of the ground and I'm sure that'll get pretty much all of Nintendo's attention at E3 while the likes of Zelda (which will probably prop-up a holiday 2011 release schedule), Monado/Xenoblade and The Last Story will give us something to play on our Wiis. I wouldn't expect a reveal until 2012, and a release that same year.

  • I think its just marketing talk for "piss off stop asking when it will come". In reality it could be around that point- that would probably be in 2 years time. So we should see it revealed next year and then out the year after at the earliest.
