NDS Kingdom Hearts Re:coded - New Screenshots And Info

Square Enix have released some new screenshots for the next installment of the Kingdom Hearts series on the DS, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, along with some new info.

The new screenshots show off one of the changes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Day, most noticeably that cutscenes will now take place in the form of 2D stills rather than running on the in game 3D engine. They also show off some of the characters you'll be encountering this time around, from Alice to members of Organization XIII, as well as some of the locations you'll be frequenting, such as Destiny Islands, Traverse Town and Wonderland.

Speaking in an interview with Dengeki Online, a translated version of which you can read by clicking here, Tetsuya Nomura went into detail about some of the features you can expect to see in the game as well as some of the development cycle:

  • influenced by 3 Kingdom Hearts games
  • has the story of the original release of Re: Coded
  • it takes the growth system of 358/2 Days
  • battle system from Birth by Sleep
  • looking to simplify controls
  • auto jump
  • assistance for when you attack with your keyblade
  • the 'cheat' option lets you change the game difficulty on the fly
  • the game is also influenced by The World Ends With You
  • tag mode functionality
  • Trophy system
Kingdom Hearts Re:coded is set for release in Japan later this year. A Western release hasn't been given but it has been noted the game will release some time in 2011.
