I really want to like this game but I just simply can't. I know it looks great and it will be fun, but the whole no story and very little character improvement thing turns me off. The whole game is basically a grindfest, all you do everyday is to kill monster with the same (but improved) weapon.
I think that's where the online cooperative play comes in, LeSomeGuy. I can see Monster Hunter being a bit of a grind and something which would put others off easily if played on your own but I'm sure it'll open up much more online. The only experience I've had with Monster Hunter has been on the PSP and I didn't like those games (I think it was more to do with the hardware being limiting in control over the game as Monster Hunter isn't exactly portable friendly) but I'm optimistic for this. Looks great and there's plenty of content to get stuck into, with online quests coming in the weeks and months after release. I love a good RPG and while this strictly isn't a true RPG, it's certainly hitting the same notes.
