SNES Mario Kart for VC

After a long wait by all, the original Super Mario Kart is available for Wii via Nintendo's Virtual Console download service in America. Europe shouldn't have long to wait.

Originally released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo, Super Mario Kart has sold over eight million copies worldwide. The Mario Kart series has given rise to seven sequels over several Nintendo-specific platforms.

The series is famed for the popularization of the kart-racing sub-genre, and the original is yours to try for 800 Wii Points now if you're in the US - but us Europeans shouldn't have too long of a wait.

In other news, other classic Nintendo hits such as the N64's Super Smash Brothers and the SNES's Pilotwings have been confirmed. No word on pricing or release date on either of these, though.
