WII Wii gets BBC iPlayer channel

Wii users have long been able to enjoy BBC's catchup service through the Opera browser, but from November 18th, you'll be able to access it through a dedicated channel.

Nintendo were the first to offer us the iPlayer, but it's complicated solution to the BBC's catchup service was overtaken last month by Sony when they released an iPlayer channel for the PlayStation 3. Nintendo are releasing their own version of this channel as a response and it is going to be available for download from the 18th.

"We've got so many Wii consoles in lounges across the country that it made perfect sense," said a Nintendo spokesperson. "We got a lot of feedback from our users about the existing iPlayer experience, which a lot of them found too fiddly, and we've taken that on board. Our iPlayer channel now has a distinct touch of the Wii about it, and all the iPlayer content that's available on PCs and Macs will be there."
