THQ and Nickelodeon have announced they'll extend their videogame lineup for 2003. More Spongebob Squarepants, Jimmy Neutron, Rocket Power, the Rugrats, Fairly OddParents and Tak & the Power of Juju.
Press release: THQ Inc., the #1 kids' videogame publisher, and Nickelodeon, the #1 entertainment brand for kids, today announced their extensive videogame lineup for 2003. THQ is the exclusive videogame publisher and master interactive licensee of Nickelodeon's individual animated television and movie properties targeting kids 6-14. This year's offerings include games based on Nickelodeon's highly rated television series "SpongeBob SquarePants," "The Fairly OddParents," "Rocket Power," and "Jimmy Neutron," as well as an interactive adaptation of Nickelodeon's upcoming theatrical release "Rugrats Go Wild." The companies' first original videogame franchise, "Tak and the Power of Juju," will debut this fall. A corresponding television program is also currently in development, based on the videogame storyline.
"THQ's Nickelodeon videogame releases have a proven track record including more than 40 products with total sales in excess of $300 million at retail since 1998," said Alison Locke, vice president, North American publishing, THQ. "That success has allowed us to continue to create compelling new titles based on Nickelodeon's most popular brands in '03, and to work hand-in-hand in developing an original videogame franchise -- 'Tak and the Power of Juju,' a platform adventure game with a marketable and charming lead character."
"We think 2003 will be our most exciting year to date working with THQ to turn Nickelodeon's kids' content into quality interactive entertainment," said Steve Youngwood, Vice President, Nickelodeon Media Products Group. "We will be releasing a robust lineup of games based on our biggest TV franchises and upcoming feature film, and debuting an original videogame property for the first time."
The 2003 THQ/Nickelodeon videogame lineup includes: "SpongeBob SquarePants" (working title) - Based on the number one program on kids' TV, this game begins as the evil Plankton sets a diabolical plan in motion and puts the fate of Bikini Bottom in the hands (or tentacles) of three unsuspecting heroes -- SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick StarFish or Sandy Cheeks -- each with unique moves and abilities. Players will go tongue-sliding down huge mountains, bungee jumping off tall cliffs or riding in a guided "cruise bubble" in an effort to foil Plankton's scheme. Available for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Game Boy Advance and PC this fall.
"The Fairly OddParents: Breakin' Da Rules" - In this videogame adventure based on the second most popular TV show for kids, the ultimate guide to having Fairy God Parents has disappeared, leaving Cosmo and Wanda without their magical powers. Timmy Turner must recover all the pages from "Da Rules" book and restore his Fairy God Parents' powers. Available for PlayStation 2, GameCube, PC and Game Boy Advance this fall.
"The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius: Jet Fusion" - Developed in conjunction with a one-hour television special to air this fall, in this game Jimmy Neutron changes Retroville into the world of his favorite spy, Jet Fusion. Jimmy must explore dangerous deserts, stormy seas and mysterious forests to save Jet Fusion from the evil Professor Calamitous in this high tech, platform adventure stuffed with exciting action and brain twisting puzzles. Available for PlayStation 2 and GameCube this fall.
"Rocket Power Zero Gravity Zone" - Players will pull "Rocket Air" off the top of a pyramid, skateboard inside a haunted house and grind across a dinosaur's back at Zero Gravity Zone -- an extreme skateboarding, dirt boarding, and snow skating amusement park including 12 differently themed environments that will push Otto, Reggie, Twister, and Sam to their limits. Available for Game Boy Advance this summer; PlayStation 2 and GameCube this fall.
"Rugrats Go Wild" (working title) - When the Rugrats set sail on the trip of a lifetime but end up on "Island Uninhabited," there is only one family that can help them out ... the Wild Thornberrys! Based on this summer's upcoming feature film of the same name, this thrilling adventure has the babies trekking treacherous rainforest paths, taking on bug-eating plants and staring down dangerous animals while solving "wild" puzzles to salvage their family vacation. Available for Game Boy Advance and PC this spring.
"Tak and the Power of Juju" - In THQ/Nickelodeon's first original videogame, Tak, a shaman's apprentice, must retrieve Moonstones stolen by an evil Juju-man, Tlaloc, to restore the Moon Juju's powers. Tak will have to stretch beyond his training and use his wits, his environment and the power of the Juju gods to defeat Tlaloc in this platform adventure set in an ancient, tribal world where magic (juju) actually works. Available for PlayStation 2, GameCube and Game Boy Advance this fall
